“Mihai Codreanu” Memorial House – “Sonnet” Villa

The “Sonnet” villa was built in 1934 in neo-Romanian style, on a land donated by the City Hall to the poet Mihai Codreanu as appreciation for his outstanding literary activity. It was the home of the master of Romanian sonnets between the years 1934 and 1957, when he welcomed the great literary personalities of Iași. The museum opened in 1970 when the poet’s wife donated the site with the library, studio, living-room, bedroom and the annexes. It includes a collection of paintings and photos, furniture, sculptures and other objects of great value, besides photocopies of manuscripts, six volumes of sonnets and medals received by the poet for his cultural contributions. The house has not been modified thus offering a romantic immersion into the inter-war atmosphere of the city. (PHOTO : Ioan APETREI)
