This first Romanian literary memorial house was opened in 1918 in this traditional house that dates from 1850. The famous writer Ion Creangă lived here between 1872 and 1889, in the right-side room, after being defrocked from the Orthodox church. In 1876, he hosted the poet Mihai Eminescu, with whom he tied a beautiful friendship. It was in this house that Eminescu encouraged him to write Tales and Childhood Memories. Inside there are the writer’s belongings: his desk, writing instruments, ink bottle, lamp, an oven similar with the one in his childhood house, an icon received from his mother, a chest of drawers and many others. In 1989, a new building with a documentary photography exhibition and an open-air amphitheatre were inaugurated in the same yard. (PHOTO : Adrian URSU)
