„The Elisabeth Esplanade” was constructed at the end of the 19th century, during the term of the mayor Nicolae Gane, in the area known as “Râpa Galbenă” (the Yellow Ravine), at the bottom of Copou Hill. It was meant to connect the low area of the railway station with the upper old center and contributed to the consolidation of the clayey land. The edifice has an impressive size and architecture. It is made of a semi-circular central body with two arc-de-cercle shaped stairways on either side, each featuring three balconies reminding of Romeo and Juliet story. The poet Mihai Eminescu used to come here often, speaking of an imaginary bridge that would connect the Yellow Ravine with Galata Hill, from where he could admire the Bahlui valley. Today, newly-weds choose this romantic spot for their photo sessions. (PHOTO : Alexandru DRĂGAN)
