Strada Cuza Vodă, Iași 700259, România
The building was constructed in 1929 as the “Merchant’s Council” wing of the Chamber of Commerce, on the former properties of Kantakouzeno family. The Greek liberation revolutionary movement (“Filiki Eteria”) temporarily settled here in 1821, before receiving a consistent financial support for its anti-Ottoman war. The edifice amazes through its Neo-Romanian architectural motifs, including trefoil arches, small and thick columns, the religious model of the spiral, ceramic discs enamelled with Moldavian seals, and decorative bricks. On the ground floor and basement, the “Fixed Theatre” Multimedia Centre Association produces theatre vanguard shows, and the café offers a space of “intellectual chillout with a drama flavour”.
