Bulevardul Carol I 8, Iași 700505, România
The Romanian Academy is an institution of national importance that has four major objectives: academic, scientific, formative and communitarian. The building was completed in 1982 with the support of the Elias Foundation. It was projected by the Romanian architect Nicolae Porumbescu, who was a real „theoretician of the nationalist architecture” and founder of the „School of architecture of Iași”. His style used sacred geometry, with the interpretation of Romanian traditional motifs (hemispheres, swallow tail, corn ear) and their transposition to a monumental scale. Although made of concrete, the building’s facades receive texture and personality through the roughened plaster. The majestic library invites you to discover the interior design specific to the 1980s, which is enhanced by the usage of Zenithal lighting. (PHOTO : Mihai BULAI)
