Palace Square – Statue of Stephen the Great

The Palace Square offers plenty of tourist attractions: The Palace of Culture, “Saint Nicolas Princely” Church, the Dosoftei House and the “Three Hierarchs” Monastery. The Statue of Stephen the Great (1883), work of French sculptor Emmanuel Fremiet, is the meeting spot for many sports and social activities. Competitions such as Iaşi half-marathon, Iaşi rally and SkirtBike have their start line here, as well as cultural-artistic events such as the International Festival of Education (FIE) which is a real brand image for Iași. The terrace behind the Palace has an open view towards three of the seven hills of Iași: Galata, Cetățuia and Repedea. The Palas Gardens with its Viennese carrousel, Turkish pavilion, artesian fountain and English lawn is an ideal place for relaxation and leisure activities. (PHOTO : Ioan APETREI)
