Rezervaţia Repedea, România
The Repedea Hill (hill no. 3) also known as “at the Relay”, offers the best panoramic view of the city. From here, with a clear sky, one can glimpse the massive shadow of the Ceahlău Mountain (Carpathians), over 130 km away, to the West. The geological and paleontological Reserve “Repedea Hill Fossiliferous Site” features spectacular caves. These were dug in oolitic limestone, in which one may notice fossils of shells, deposited around 5-7 million years ago after the withdrawal of the Sarmatian Sea. Climbing on limestone walls, trekking, mountain biking and picnics are common during summer. Here begins the Bârnova-Repedea Forest with beech, oak and hornbeam species that shelter wild boars, deer and foxes. The night attracts romantic couples and photographers, who admire the city lights and the sky full of stars. (PHOTO : Cosmin CEUCĂ)
