The Synagogue of “Cismari” is a former Jewish religious house from the 19th century, belonging to the guild of bootmakers. From the old monumental building only a few decorations on the façade are still noticeable, such as the cornice decorated with small consoles and round windows of the attic. In 1937, Leon Ghelerter, a renown Jewish doctor and initiator of benefit societies, hospitals and clinics in Iași and Bucharest, founded a children’s hospital and a clinic nearby. His hospital offered free consultations to all children in Iași, no matter their religion. Nowadays, in the former Synagogue of “Cismari”, a maintenance and repair workshop for medical apparatus can be found, as annex of the “Dr. Leon Ghelerter” Section of the Psychiatry – Neurology University Hospital of Iași.
