Strada Grigore Ureche 5, Iași 700259, România
The Puppet Theatre was founded in Iași in 1949 in a hall of the Catholic Church yard. Music, poetry, pantomime and dance were then added in order to vary the shows. Thus it became the Theatre for Children and Youth in 1973. The theatre’s current building has a modern architecture, with a hexagonal plan, and is covered by travertine and Ruşchiţa marble at the façades. The building opened in 1987, when the institution received the name of “Luceafărul” (Morning Star). Since 2007, at the beginning of October, the institution hosts the International Theatre Festival for Young Public. The festival is accredited by the Brussels forum as a “European Festival”. This unique event in Romania attracts over 300 artists from 17 countries during its eight days of events. (PHOTO : Ioan APETREI)
