The former University Foundation ”King Ferdinand” was built between 1930 and 1934, in the Neoclassic style, by the architect Constantin Jotzu. It has been a symbolic reward for the efforts and essential role of Iaşi in defending the nation between 1916-1918. Since 1950 it has hosted the Library’s priceless book fund. It impresses through the massive ionic columns and the Neo-Doric pillars on the outside, and the interior decorations of Carrara marble and Venetian mosaic. The auditorium with its royal balcony delights the visitors with its excellent acoustics, modernist decorations and skylight. The “B.P. Hașdeu” Hall with its balcony oriented towards the square and the Observatory in the cupola can be visited during the guided tour offered by the institution. (PHOTO: Mihai BULAI)
