This palace was built around 1806 by the Catargi family and after 1832 it was owned by the Cantacuzino-Ghica family. It has hosted the first meeting of the unionists and was the residence of Prince Cuza (1859-1865) and of King Ferdinand I (1917-1918). In 1937, at the initiative of historian Nicolae Iorga, the “Cuza-Vodă Palace” Museum was founded, and then it became “The Museum of the Union” on the centenary of Romania’s birth in 1959. The palace has a sumptuous architecture and features the coats of arms of the first owners as well as six massive Atlases. Since 2007, the museum reconstitutes the atmosphere of the residence of Prince Alexandru Ioan Cuza, by presenting the reforms that mark modern Romania as well as an exceptional heritage within the majestic apartments.
