The Breazu Hill, the sixth hill, is known by the town people as a quiet place for walking. From the E58 road in the Cacaina’s Valley, we climb steeply on a trail that crosses agricultural land and we reach the La Castel (“At the Castle”) restaurant.

This restaurant organizes various events and is loved because of its location in the middle of Breazu Forest, and the exceptional quality of services. The meadow overlooking Breazu village is often used for summer picnics and for sledding in winter, and the nearby open swimming pool enriches the range of activities. Going down to the city, we will notice a bicycle track that will take us to the center. On the right side there is a new wooden church with a more special shape, the Munteni-Copou Church. After another 1 km, we see on the leftside the Normal School “Vasile Lupu”, in the courtyard of which is a dendrological park. This institution is the oldest of its kind in the Romanian Lands, initially being placed in the courtyard of the Three Hierarchs Monastery in 1855. The current building was built in 1891, and the school’s park and library (founded by academician Titu Maiorescu) made the school famous. The principle of this institute was to train educators and teachers both in the art of teaching and in agricultural science, so that they could return to their native villages to become true social models. Between 1907 and 1911 the brick chapel, hidden in the abundancy of trees, was built, and between 1995 and 2003 the school housed the Seminary “St. Basil the Great “, which now operates in a separate building. On Viticultori Street, below, on the right, 300 meters from the intersection dominated by an imposing building from 1910-1920, there is the summer palace of the Prince Ioniță Sandu Sturza and Ecaterina Rosetti-Rozonovanu, built between 1822-1825. The building has thick walls, a terrace above the entrance vault, a large room, and a ballroom. The “Cărvunarilor Mansion”, as it is known, hosted the thinkers of the Cărvunarilor Society with Enlightenment Ideas, who drafted the first draft constitution in 1822. This document was inspired by the ideology of the French Revolution and provided for the separation of powers in the state, equal rights for people when facing the law, etc. It was named Cărvunarilor’s Constitution, but it was not accepted either by the boyars or by the Russian and Ottoman empires, although it remained a standard in national emancipation. After the ruler’s exile, the building had several owners then became a High School in the Communist period, named from 2010 as “Vasile Adamachi” Agricultural and Food Industry College.

Descending the slope of Breazu hill, we reach the seventh and last hill of Iaşi.

Munteni-Copou experimental church

The Munteni-Copou Church, initiated at the request of parishioners from the small parish in 2010, is dedicated to the Sacred Maxim the Confessor, Gregory Palamas and the Neophyte The Ascetic. The project started as a social and architectural experiment, using traditional materials and community volunteering to create a stronger link between parishioners and the church. After long theological, social and technical debates, architect Ana-Maria Goilav decided to create a wooden structure with an ascending dynamics suggesting a rotating motion. The plan is square and consists only of a nave and altar – a return to the structure of Byzantine churches.
